Earthquakes are prevalent in the Pacific Rim region known as the “Ring of Fire” where ninety percent of the world’s earthquakes occur. Buildings in the city of Hong Kong have been built on granite, which could help minimize damage in the event of an earthquake. The foundation of buildings is extremely important in earthquake-prone regions of the world. A strong faith has to be built on a solid foundation that can withstand the forces of trials and tribulations of life.
Faith: The integrity of Christian faith is built on Christ as the corner stone, who was rejected by people but chosen by God. "You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 2:4).
Doctrine: The integrity of the Christian Doctrine is based on the Living Word, Christ who is the rock of salvation. When you are challenged with questions on why you believe what you believe, the word of God is our defense. The Bible is the inspired word of God, which should be the sole basis and foundation of Christian doctrine. It’s the unique testimony to God’s revelation in the world; in the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ; and in the Spirit’s work in the early church. It’s our sacred canon and thus, the decisive source of our Christian witness and the authoritative measure of the truth in our beliefs.
Character: A building’s structural integrity is dependent upon the types of material that are used. In the same way, we need to be very careful about the type of material we are using to build. "If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work" (1 Cor 3: 12). The genuineness of our character and the moral standards should show the integrity of Christ's character. When we allow the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to guide us in our relationships, decisions, and priorities, God will provide the strength to withstand the pressures of any forces of evil.
