Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘"Be moved into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says, it will be done for him." (Mark 11:22). Jesus talked to inanimate things like a fig tree, water, waves and wind and they all responded. He wants us to speak to the mountains that may come across in our journey of life. It is not speaking about your mountain, but it is about speaking to your mountain. Speaking about your mountain will magnify the problem in your thoughts and minds. The problem will begin to look bigger and bigger in your sight as you continue to dwell on it. But speaking to your mountain keeps things in proper perspective. Sir Edmund Hilary who was the first man to climb the Mount Everest said, “It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” The statement is a game changer when we approach mountains.
Mountains are real and there is no way to hide them or hide from them. Running away from a problem does not solve it, rather may aggravate it. You cannot go around it because it is so real that is always in front of you. If you don’t speak to your mountain, the problem will start speaking to you. Your focus then shifts from God to the problem, which will make you vulnerable. The problem will become controlling and we start making excuses and become frustrated. Maybe your mountain is a financial crisis or a work-related challenge. Maybe it’s a health issue or an emotional battle going on in your heart. Maybe a mountain has come in your relationship with someone. It might be shame or guilt that is keeping you from getting back up again. A mountain can be anything that is keeping you from moving forward. Whatever mountain you may be facing right now, don’t be afraid to speak to it. Serve that mountain notice that you won’t be intimidated by it, that your God is bigger than the mountain. It doesn’t matter how long the mountain has been there. God already knows about your problem and He has already provided a way. Our heavenly Father is ahead of you making plans for your future. "I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11).
The Bible shows that mountains are the places where people of faith experienced the power and presence of God. Noah saw the presence of God on Mount Ararat. Moses saw the glory of God on Mount Sinai, Abraham experienced the faithfulness of God on Mount Moriah. Elijah saw the might of God on Mount Carmel, and Jesus revealed His glory on mount of transfiguration and won the victory over death and sin on Mount Calvary. There are many mountains that are unnamed where heroes of faith enjoyed the presence of God. The reality is that mountains never grow, but we continue to grow in faith. With faith in God, our words become so powerful that they can move any mountains.
