While working with a lawyer on some legal matters, I wanted to get answers to some scenario questions. What if the customer doesn't pay, what if there is a property damage, what if there is a liability case etc. The lawyer took my list and scribbled his answers. To most of them he wrote, “we will cross that bridge when we get there”. There I learned that there is no need to know the answers to all scenario questions. Most of them will not happen, and if they happen we need to face them with the resources that are available at that time.
Joshua and the people were at the brink of the river Jordan, but there was no bridge (Exodus 3). They must have felt a sense of desperation and disappointment. The promised land was in sight and a flooded river stood as obstacle. They spent three days waiting there looking at the torrential flood and listening to the roaring water. We wish God would give answers to the 'what if' questions before we get there. It would be easy if God would show up in the middle of the night as He did to Mary and Joseph and explained everything.
Roaring flood waters of life can be powerful that we don't even want to try to cross. Our lives feel stalled and stuck on the wrong side. We read about the abundant life, but can't make it out of the wilderness. We wish we were on the other side. God's call is to 'arise and cross'. Your next step decides your future to greater opportunities that are bigger than yourself. On stepping out, a "no way" can turn into a 'highway'! Peter was asked to walk on water while Joshua was asked to walk through water.
One day, all of us will cross a cold and roaring river alone before we enter the promised land. God has built a bridge through Jesus and He will be with us.
